PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery pack which can suppress the wasteful consumption of power, and a method for informing a portable apparatus of a change of a characteristic of a battery by using the battery pack. SOLUTION: A battery characteristic measurement part 3 possessed by the battery pack 1 measures the characteristic of the battery 2. In this measurement, when a significant change is measured in the characteristic of the battery 2, the battery characteristic measurement part 3 possessed by the battery pack 1 informs the portable apparatus 8 that the significant change is measured in the characteristic of the battery 2. The battery characteristic measurement part 3 possessed by the battery pack 1 receives a request for transmitting battery characteristic data which are related to the characteristic of the battery 2 transmitted from the portable apparatus 8 according to the information, and transmits the data related to the characteristic of the battery 2 to the portable apparatus 8 in response to the request of the transmission.
