<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a convenient method for evaluating a roll for hot rolling work capable of reproducibly evaluating the durability (fatigue resistance) of a roll for hot rolling work in an actual operational state. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for evaluating the roll for hot rolling work includes steps of pressing a disk-shaped counterpart piece of a latter test piece in contact with the circumference surface of the latter test piece which is heated to at least a predetermined temperature to a disk-shaped test piece of a material equivalent to a roll for hot rolling having at least one slit of an L-shaped cross section on the vertical cross section in the thickness direction, inserted in a circumference surface while applying a predetermined load to the test piece, cooling the test piece at the inlet and the outlet side of the contacting portion between the test piece and the counterpart piece and rolling the test piece, and determining the number of rolling revolutions until the slit of the test piece is broken. This can conveniently and reproducibly evaluate the fatigue resistance of the roll for hot rolling in an actual machine. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
