The method involves monitoring a sequence of states of a terminal, and determining whether an event associated to the states occurs and/or a precondition associated to the state is fulfilled in each state of the terminal. A state transition is triggered depending on the monitoring process, and a location-based service is provided on the terminal when a predetermined intermediate or final state is reached. Information about configuration of the terminal is transmitted as a message from a server to the terminal before starting of the monitoring process. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a program for providing a location-based service to a mobile terminal in a wireless network (2) a data processing module for a mobile terminal.
