摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which has a low driving voltage and a superior emission efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element includes a light emitting layer which contains a phosphorescent light emitting material having an electron transport capability, and also includes an electron transport layer containing a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound expressed by a general expression (1) between the light emitting layer and a negative electrode. In the general expression (1), A<SP>1</SP>to A<SP>3</SP>are independent of each other and represent a nitrogen atom or a carbon atom. Ar<SP>1</SP>represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 60 nucleus carbons, or the like and Ar<SP>2</SP>represents a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 60 nucleus carbons, or the like, however, either Ar<SP>1</SP>or Ar<SP>2</SP>is a substituted or unsubstituted condensed ring group having 10 to 60 nucleus carbons or a substituted or unsubstituted monohetero condensed ring group having 3 to 60 nucleus carbons. L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>are independent of each other and represent a single bond, a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group having 6 to 60 nucleus carbons, or the like. R is a hydrogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group having 6 to 60 nucleus carbons, or the like, and n is an integer of 0 to 5. When n is 2 or above, the plurality of Rs are either the same or different.
