<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of an image generated by enlargement processing, by effectively utilizing information acquired in an image processing circuit. <P>SOLUTION: A correlation value calculation circuit 32 calculates correlation values of four directions of each of pixels of a color image and a gray image. A selection circuit 33 determines correlation values Cv, Ch, Cd<SB>A</SB>, Cd<SB>B</SB>of four directions based on a saturation evaluation value. A first correlation determining circuit 341 determines a correlation direction of a noticed pixel from the correlation values Cv, Ch, Cd<SB>A</SB>, Cd<SB>B</SB>. A first interpolation circuit 351 executes color interpolation processing based on the determined correlation direction. A color-interpolated image is enlarged by an enlargement circuit 37. A correlation direction interpolation circuit 38 executes enlargement interpolation for the correction direction determined by the first correlation determining circuit 341.
