PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stair climbing device suitable for transportation by a wheelchair seated with a person. SOLUTION: This stair climbing device applied, for example, for the wheelchair includes at least one climbing element 15 capable of elevating or lowering the stair climbing device to the next step by moving on a circulation track to contact with the next step. The stair climbing device includes a driving motor 2 for providing a driving force for moving the at least one climbing element 15 on the circulation track, and the at least one climbing element 15 on the circulation track is moved at a nonconstant rotational speed. A gear power transmission assembly 3 is provided between the driving motor 2 and the at least one climbing element 15, and the rotational speed of the at least one climbing element 15 is varied periodically in response to a rotational speed of the driving motor 2.
