<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information providing device and an information providing method capable of supplying and releasing the provision of information at proper timing by performing driving support for the more robust prevention of a rear-end collision in a safe driving support system. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a rear-end collision prevention information support in-vehicle device 1, an information provision determination means 13 includes: a time condition determination part 13a for performing determination using an estimated time until an object vehicle collides against a front vehicle from behind; a distance condition determination part 13b for performing determination using an estimated distance until the object vehicle collides against a front vehicle from behind; and a driving condition determination part 13c for performing determination using the operating state of the object vehicle, and determines whether the provision of information or a warning is given to a driver based on the determination result by each determination part.
