PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator suppressing wear and tear of a rod and an outer tube and achieving smooth expansion/contraction. SOLUTION: The linear actuator 1 is provided with: the outer tube 2; the rod 3 freely movably inserted into the outer tube 2; a field magnet 4 provided with a plurality of permanent magnets 5 and held by either the outer tube 2 or the rod 3; and a plurality of coils 6 held to be arranged in the axial direction on the other of the outer tube 2 or the rod 3 so as to oppose the field magnet 4. The linear actuator 1 generates a thrust force for relatively displacing the outer tube 2 and the rod 3 in the axial direction. The linear actuator 1 is provided with: a first sliding ring 8 made of a synthetic resin, held on either the outer tube 2 or the rod 3 and sliding on the other; and a second sliding ring 9 made of a synthetic resin, held on either the outer tube 2 or the rod 3 and sliding on the other.
