<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear actuator excellent in position controllability, which obtains a large stroke length and efficiently obtains a large thrust with a lightweight movable magnet portion. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The linear actuator includes: the movable magnet portion supported to reciprocate in the direction of an axial line and having magnets; and conductive coils fixedly supported and interlinked with magnetic flux in a magnetic field generated by a magnet. The movable magnet portion is reciprocated by electromagnetic force generated between the magnets and the energized coils. The movable magnet portion 2 includes the multiple magnets 31, 32 at an interval in the direction of the axial line AL. The individual magnetic poles 31N to 32S are alternately arranged and respectively positioned on both side faces 21, 22 of the movable magnet portion 2 in the direction of the axial line AL. The coils 31N to 32S have yokes 51 that are respectively provided facing the magnetic poles of the magnets and placed so that their axial centers are in parallel with the axial line AL and through which magnetic flux passes.
