<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a polymer liquid crystal that has high crack resistance and is applicable to an optical element coping with light within a wide wavelength range; a novel acrylic acid derivative compound used therefor; and a liquid crystalline composition comprising the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The acrylic acid derivative compound is one bearing two polymerizable functional groups, wherein at least one polymerizable functional group is directly bonded to condensed benzene ring groups, W<SP>1</SP>and W<SP>2</SP>, and is represented by the formula: CH<SB>2</SB>=CR<SP>1</SP>-COO-W<SP>1</SP>-(J<SP>1</SP>-E<SP>1</SP>)<SB>p</SB>-(J<SP>2</SP>-E<SP>2</SP>)<SB>q</SB>-(J<SP>3</SP>-E<SP>3</SP>-)<SB>r</SB>-(J<SP>4</SP>-E<SP>4</SP>)<SB>s</SB>-J<SP>5</SP>-(W<SP>2</SP>)<SB>t</SB>-OCO-CR<SP>2</SP>=CH<SB>2</SB>.
