<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gripper cleaning device 30 which can automatically clean the gripper 20 of a printed matter carrier machine 11 in a center gripping type, and which is compact and lightweight and can be easily installed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The rotating rotation brush 33 contacts and cleans the gripping surfaces 24, 25 of the gripping bodies 22, 23, allowing the moving gripper 20 to pass through. The rotation brush 33 is supported in an oscillatable manner at the support part 43 of the switching mechanism 40, and oscillates at the air cylinder 45 while switching between the first cleaning position and the second cleaning position. The rotation brush 33 cleans the gripping surface at the first cleaning position by causing the leading end of the rotation brush 33 to contact the gripping surface 24 of the gripping body 22. The rotation brush 33 cleans the gripping surface at the second cleaning position by causing the leading end of the rotation brush 33 to contact the gripping surface 25 of the other gripping body 23.
