<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die cushion device equipped with gas springs, wherein the cushion force is increased step by step according to the advance of the action of the die cushion by enhancing the durability of the gas spring, and imparting the locking function of locking a die cushion at the lower limit position immediately behind the die cushion for the predetermined time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The die cushion device is provided with: a base plate 23 arranged below a cushion pad 21; a plurality of gas springs 24 which are arranged between the base plate 23 and the cushion pad 21 in an inverted posture for expanding/contracting a rod member 24b downwardly with respect to a cylinder body 24a, and press the cushion pad 21 upwardly with respect to the base plate 23; a plurality of locking cylinders 25 for allowing the cushion pad 21 to be elevated/lowered with respect to a bolster 1 by connecting the base plate 23 to the bolster 1; and a hydraulic pressure supplying/discharging device 30 for supplying/discharging the hydraulic pressure to/from the plurality of locking cylinders 25, and capable of locking the cushion pad 21 at the lower limit position immediately after the die cushion operation for the predetermined time, and unlocking the cushion pad after the locking.
