An operating table comprises a top 14 removably supported on a pedestal 3 (Fig. 2, not shown) and divided into in dependently adjustable parts, e.g. head portion 15 and leg portion 16, the adjustment means being motivated by an electric motor or other power source arranged in the pedestal and the arrangement being such that the transmission from the power source is automatically coupled with the adjustment means when the top 14 is positioned on the pedestal. The top 14 is supported on angle levers 13 having depending pin-like arms 13b carrying worms 17 which drivingly engage the transmission when the arms 13b are engaged in swivelled supports 6 (Fig. 1, not shown) carried by the telescopic and rotatable pedestal. A clutch mechanism 21, 22 is manually operable through a lever 23 to selectively pivot the adjustable parts 15, 16 about axles C, D carried by the horizontal arms 13a of the levers 13. The leg portion 16 may be divided into two independently adjustable parts. A latch 47 retains the top 14 on the support. The removable top 14 may be supported on two telescopic columns of a wheeled carriage (Figs. 3, 8, not shown) having manual means for performing the adjustments otherwise associated with the power source in the pedestal, the arrangement being such as to provide an automatic engagement of the adjustment transmission when the top is engaged on the carriage. The latch 47 again serves to lock the top on the carriage. Pawl means is provided to ensure that the top is always held against inadvertent upward movement when being transferred to and fom the carriage. The carriage may be equipped with a weighing device. |
