In a process for separating hydrogen-rich nitrogen from coke oven gas wherein compressed feed gas is fed through a line (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), into a methane column (2) cooled by product hydrogen and nitrogen discharged through a line (9) from a scrubber column (6) and to which line (9) liquid nitrogen is added through a line (10) and wherein the column (2) is also cooled by condensed carbon monoxide withdrawn from the scrubber (6) through a line (7) having an expansion valve (18), the temperature of the feed gas at the outlet of the column (2) in said line (7) leading to the scrubber (6) is maintained constant by varying the rate of supply of supplementary liquid nitrogen from line (10) to line (9) and of condensed carbon monoxide from expansion valve (18) in line (7) by control means responsive to said temperature. A temperature rise from, say, - 180‹ C. to - 175‹ C. at the feed outlet of column (2) results in a signal transmitted by a temperature responsive element (14) to a device (11) which actuates liquid nitrogen flow regulators (15 to 17) in line (10) and device (11) is also responsive to a volumeter (12) in feed line (1). Element (14) also sends a signal to a level responsive device (19) which in turn controls discharge valve (18). |
