A modem system (10, 11) includes a wireless modem circuit (44) and a plurality of expansion modules (37, 137, 237) connectable to the modem for providing additional input/output connections and, optionally, additional functionality such as an Ethernet transceiver (78) or a GPS receiver (277). The modem housing (16) and expansion module housing (15) include complementary tongue and recess coupling means (20, 21, 60, 61) for mechanically connecting the housings and providing a connection suitable for rugged environments. Integral with the coupling means are pin-type electrical connectors (40, 50) fixed on PCBs mounted in the housings. |
