PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for masking a privacy area in a digital image processing device are provided to reduce the sense of difference by performing a mask processing operation through the average value of both luminance and chrominance signals in a privacy region. CONSTITUTION: A setup unit(15-1) sets up a privacy area from an image, and an extraction unit(15-2) extracts luminance and chrominance signals of a set privacy area. A controller(21) calculates the average value of the extracted luminance and chrominance signals, and performs masking for the privacy region based on the average value.
