PROJECTION DISPLAY APPARATUS CAPABLE OF SUPPRESSING SPECKLE NOISE

PURPOSE: A projection display device to reduce a speckle noise is provided to consider a contrast ratio of an image by reducing a speckle noise. CONSTITUTION: An illumination optical system(120) includes an optical source to emit light. An optical modulator(130) outputs the modulated light made by diffracting the light transmitted from the illumination optical system. A projection optical system projects the modulated light on a screen. A schlieren stop(150) is inserted into an optical path between the projection optical system and the screen and is made of opaque materials with a slit to transmit a part of the modulated light outputted from the optical modulator.
