<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotational angle detector that is used, for example, for detecting the rotational angle of the steering of mainly an automobile, has a low-cost configuration, and can detect rotational angle without fail. Ž<P>SOLUTION: One of first and second detection means 15, 16 is formed by a magnet 16A and a plurality of Hall elements 16B, 16C arranged orthogonally. A control means 17 first detects an approximate rotational angle of a rotor 11 by a detection signal from the plurality of Hall elements 16B, 16C and an AMR element 15B. Then, a detailed rotational angle is detected by a detection signal from the AMR element 15B so that the inexpensive Hall elements 16B, 16C can be used, thus obtaining the rotational angle detector capable of detecting the rotational angle by using a low-cost configuration, without fail.
