PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of increase of workload of a volume allocation operation to an application of a PC server which used to be performed by an administrator and the work of taking over volumes in accordance with change of a PC server device. SOLUTION: A storage device includes: a means for managing the configuration information of a volume in an application unit; a means for managing information related with the application of the volume in the volume unit of the application; and a means for managing the allocatable area of the storage device by dividing it on the basis of performance and reliability. The volume management system of the storage device includes a means for selecting an allocation area suitable for the system on the basis of the application of the volume of the application; a means for selecting the allocation area suitable for a performance of change of a host according to the performance, and for moving the volume to the suitable area when the host configuration of the application is changed; and a means for changing the setting of the host side by changing the configuration information.
