PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup apparatus capable of properly reproducing information from a recording medium on which the information is recorded using holography. SOLUTION: In the optical pickup apparatus using the holography, when a luminous flux of a wavelengthλ1 emitted from a first semiconductor laser LD1 forms light convergence spots on a recording layer RL through an objective lens OBJ, a control circuit CONT selects one of a plurality of light convergence spots SP1 to SP3 formed on a guide layer GL and on the basis of a signal which is obtained by reading the selected light convergence spot by a photodetector PD2, drives a biaxial actuator AC2 to perform tracking control of the objective lens OBJ. Therefore, the light convergence spot is formed on the recording layer RL while the light convergence spot is deviated in the direction of a tracking width by a narrower interval than the tracking interval TP of the guide layer GL.
