<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guide plate unit that can adjust illumination pattern within a display screen of a liquid crystal display device that uses a light guide plate to a desired form, and to provide a liquid crystal display device that can set different illumination patterns required for a large-screen thin liquid crystal television set, and the like, using the light guide plate unit. <P>SOLUTION: The light guide plate unit includes a two-layered light guide plate having a rectangular light output surface, a light incident surface, including a side of the light output surface, and a rear surface that is a surface opposite to the light output surface; and an illumination distribution adjustment means, consisting of a diffusion sheet and a prism sheet on the light output surface side.
