PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new liquid crystal compound, extremely stable physically and chemically, and having compatibility with other liquid crystal compounds, just suitable dielectric anisotropy and suitable optical anisotropy, a composition containing the above compound and having suitable specific resistance and voltage holding ratio, and a liquid crystal display element containing the above composition. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal compound is expressed by formula (1) [wherein, e.g. R, R1are each independently 1-10C alkyl; ring A1to ring A4are each independently 1,4-cyclohexylene or 1,4-phenylene; Z1to Z4are each independently a single bond or -(CH2)2-; and (m), (n) and (o) are each independently 0 or 1], and the liquid crystal composition containing the above compound and the liquid crystal display element containing the above composition are also provided.
