PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing methylene lactones which can fully inhibit the polymerization of methylene lactones in carrying out distillation at high temperatures as a step of purifying the methylene lactones, is industrially suitably used, and can produce various methylene lactones having excellent quality. SOLUTION: The method for producing methylene lactones comprises a step of synthesizing methylene lactones and distilling the synthesized methylene lactones to purify them and performs a step of removing a metallic component and/or an acid component as an impurity from the reaction solution having synthesized methylene lactones and thereafter a step of distilling the reaction solution at 70°C or higher in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor to purify it.
