PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid feeder, a printer, and a control method for the liquid feeder capable of supplying liquid satisfactorily and also securing excellent throughput, being made compact and reducing cost with simple structure. SOLUTION: An ink-jet printer 1 includes an expansion mechanism allowing an ink supply operation of supplying ink from an ink cartridge by expanding an ink chamber by a piston moved when an engaging member movably provided at a carriage moves abutting on a regulating plate provided on the body side. The ink-jet printer also includes a comparing means 113 determining whether the ink residual quantity of the ink cartridge 17 is less than a predetermined value, and a CPU 115 setting a long-time mode in which an ink supply operation time is long, when the ink residual quantity of the ink cartridge is less than the predetermined value.
