PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording paper recycling apparatus which can check if an image is erased from recording paper sheets after being heated, without complicating the constitution of the apparatus or increasing a time necessary for recycle of the recording paper sheets. SOLUTION: The recording paper recycling apparatus is composed of: a conveyance means which conveys the recording paper sheets with the image recorded thereon on a conveyance path; an image erasing part which erases the image by heating the recording paper sheets on the conveyance path; a light source part which is set on the downstream side of the conveyance path from the image erasing part to illuminate the recording paper sheets on the conveyance path with detection light; a photosensor which is arranged on the opposite side to the light source part with the conveyance path held therebetween to receive the detection light that has passed through the recording paper sheets; and an erasure distinction part which determines whether the image is erased from the recording paper sheets on the basis of an output of the photosensor.
