PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a robot hand welding gun system capable of downsizing a robot hand, and a method of operating the system. SOLUTION: The robot hand welding gun system 100 has a welding gun 200 for welding a workpiece 500 to be worked and the robot hand 300 for moving the workpiece connected to a tip of a robot arm 410. The robot hand welding gun system further includes carriers 310, 320 and 330 provided movably on the robot hand for holding the workpiece. The carriers are movable by their own weight between a holding position for holding the workpiece when moving it and a retreat position retreating from a welding gun when the workpiece is to be welded.
