Use of vinpocetine to avoid complications in particular those associated with hearing which occur with epilepsy, and treatment thereof

Disclosed is the use of vinpocetine in the preparation of a medicament for inhibiting auditory tract alterations and hearing loss caused by epilepsy. The results obtained from experimental models of epilepsy in vivo showed that vinpocetine inhibits alterations of waves of the auditory brainstem response (ABR) which accompany the cortical epileptic activity during the ictal and post-ictal period.
