PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that prevents failure in color shift detection used for a color shift adjustment for each color and improves accuracy, and to provide a control method therefor. SOLUTION: An optical section holds color shift information specific to the optical section. An engine control section informs a controller of an amount of color shift specific to the optical section. A controller uses the optical section color shift information in color shift detection, thereby preventing failure in color shift detection.
