PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid delivery device capable of estimating a liquid temperature without providing separately a temperature measuring means, and capable of restraining sufficiently a delivery state from being affected by fluctuation of the liquid temperature, and a method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: In this liquid delivery device, a cap member 33 is opposedly arranged on a nozzle forming face of a recording head 2 for delivering ink from a nozzle opening 13 by driving a piezoelectric element, an electrical change is detected between a nozzle plate 15 and the cap member 33 when delivering the ink from the nozzle opening 13 toward the cap member 33, under the condition where a voltage is impressed between the nozzle plate 15 of the recording head 2 and the cap member 33, a detection voltage is acquired therein, a correlation between the detection voltage and the liquid temperature delivered from the nozzle opening 13 is stored preliminarily as correlation information, the liquid temperature corresponding to the detection voltage is estimated as an estimated liquid temperature, based on the correlation information, and a usual drive pulse and a delivery drive pulse are corrected in response to the estimated liquid temperature.
