摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication device which controls a semiconductor optical amplifier so that a semiconductor optical amplifier does not cause gain saturation. SOLUTION: The optical communication device includes: a semiconductor optical amplifier 21 for amplifying a wavelength multiplexed optical signal subject to wavelength multiplexing an optical signal for two or more respective communication channels, and which has gain saturation characteristics; a splitter 22 for separating a wavelength multiplexing optical signal amplified with the semiconductor optical amplifier 21 to two or more optical signals; photoelectric conversion sections 23a-23d for converting two or more optical signals separated by the splitter 22 into electrical signals, and for taking out data signals for the two or more respective communication channels; filter sections 24b-24d for detecting the pilot signal transferred by the data signal of at least one communication channel other than a communication channel superimposed on the pilot signal by the data signal among two or more communication channels; and a control section 26 for controlling any one of saturation power of a semiconductor optical amplifier 21, and input light power to semiconductor optical amplifier 21, based on the pilot signal detected by the filter sections 24b-24d.
