PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a railroad crossing obstacle detecting device for improving reliability in detecting an obstacle. SOLUTION: Sensor devices 1a and 1b include a transmission part, a receiving part and a signal processing part. The transmission part transmits a radio wave to a detection area S. The receiving part receives a reflected wave to this radio wave, to be outputted to the signal processing part through the convertion of the reflected wave into an electric signal. The signal processing part analyzes the electric signal, and detects the obstacles 5 and 6 based on the detection result of a first reflected wave from the obstacles 5 and 6 in the detection area S and a second reflected wave from reflecting plates 2a-2f. In the case of an object of scattering the first reflected wave and also the large object 5 such as an automobile, since it surely cuts off any of the optical axis L of the second reflected wave, the signal processing part can detect the obstacle 5 by detecting reduction in a receiving level of the second reflected wave, and can also detect the small obstacle 6 to enter into a clearance of the optical axis L by detecting the first reflected wave.
