<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission torque which realizes optimum performance during deceleration of a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: A transmission torque of a clutch is controlled to be reduced to a standby torque when a vehicle is in the course of deceleration. The standby torque is determined so as to prevent a slip of the clutch caused by a friction torque of an engine.
