<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mounting member for an armrest in a motor vehicle that can reliably support the bodyweight of a person who gets into and out of the vehicle, and that does not adversely affect the safety of the vehicle occupants during a side impact crash. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The mounting member 22 for an armrest in the motor vehicle comprises a one-piece sheet metal profile that has a bearing 24 disposed so as to abut against a body of the vehicle, and a holder 26 that projects from the bearing 24 at an angle α, and is configured for fastening the armrest. The mounting member 22 is designed to react differently to forces that act on the mounting member from different directions, and thereby the mounting member can optimize the loading state of supporting a person's bodyweight.
