<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display element having an improved display speed and high stability of reflectance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display element includes a display electrode, a counter electrode, and an electrolytic liquid between the electrodes, the electrolytic liquid containing a metal salt compound that dissolves and precipitates by an oxidation-reduction reaction, wherein the counter electrode contains a porous structure formed of oxide fine particles, and an oxidation-reduction material having oxidation-reduction reactivity is fixed to the surface of the oxide fine particles.
