An alarm device comprising a switch circuit (28) having one or more switches (29), adapted for mounting on a vehicle's steering wheel; and a control circuit (20) connected to the switch circuit comprising one or more batteries (26), a main switch, a soft-start circuit, a processor (22) and an alarm means (24). The main switch is arranged to turn the alarm device on and off. The soft-start circuit is arranged to prevent excessive current from being drawn by the control circuit when the main switch is turned on. The processor is arranged to activate the alarm means.
