A leg 20 for a roof rack is adaptable so as to be attachable to different mounting systems by which the leg can be attached to a vehicle, and includes a pair of supports 21a, 21b joined by a bridge 27 that supports a cross-bar housing 23. The supports have opposed inner faces on which mounting system locating elements 25, 28, 29 are situated for locating a mounting system in the correct position on the leg. The leg also includes an attachment system 22 by which one or more components of the mounting system can attach to the leg.
