<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate fluctuation in determination accuracy of occupants on vehicles, etc. by eliminating fluctuation in sensitivity and zero points of electrostatic sensors of vehicles. <P>SOLUTION: In the electrostatic type occupant detection device having an electrostatic sensor and an occupant detection ECU 11, two or more load circuits ScL, ScH, Sc3 and Sc4, defined for measurement values different each other, are connected by a parallel circuit of a current detection resistor RS and a capacitor to a sensor property measurement section 14 through switches SL, SH, S3 and S4 in place of the electrostatic sensor. A measurement value V1 generating at the current detection resistor RS is read into CPU 15 by applying an AC voltage signal from a signal source VSG of the sensor property measurement section 14 to the group of load circuits ScL, ScH, Sc3 and Sc4. Then a second measurement value V2 is read by applying to the group of load circuits ScH, Sc3 and Sc4 with a load higher than that of the group of load circuits.
