<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid separation apparatus capable of distinguishing the progress state of separation of a liquid mixture composed of two kinds of liquid stored in a separation vessel. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid separation apparatus 1 includes the separation vessel 2 storing water emulsion fuel Lm of water L1 and light oil L2 different in the specific gravity; a float 3 for a high specific gravity liquid having the specific gravity smaller than that of the water L1 and larger than that of the water emulsion fuel Lm; a float 4 for a low specific gravity liquid having the specific gravity larger than that of light oil L2 and smaller than that of the water emulsion fuel Lm; a float position sensor 10 detecting the respective height positions of the float 3 for the high specific gravity liquid and the float 4 for the low specific gravity liquid; and a control device 11 distinguishing the progress state of the separation of the water L1 from the light oil L2 based on the difference of the heights of both floats 3, 4 detected by the float position sensor 10.
