<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform multiplex transmission of a sound by avoiding a collision without lowering transmission efficiency even in system constitution wherein a plurality of slave units and a master unit are branch-connected to common transmission lines through branch units. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When an event for starting a speech communication occurs, a signal processing unit 44 of a repeating device R transmits a transmission start command to give a right to transmission to a plurality of slave units S1 and S2 and a plurality of master units M1 and M2 in order, and therefore while a collision of packets transmitted from the plurality of slave units S1 and S2 and the plurality of master units M1 and M2 is avoided, the plurality of slave unit S1 and master unit M1, and slave unit S1 and master unit M2 have speech communication simultaneously. Consequently, the plurality of slave units S1 and S2, and master units M1 and M2 achieve multiplex transmission of audio and video while avoiding a collision without lowering the transmission efficiency even in the system constitution wherein they are branch-connected to the common transmission lines Ls1 and Ls2 through the branch units B.
