The device has a jack-tool (20) comprising a body (21) placed in a passage formed in a base plate (6) of a storage module (5) to be evacuated from a storage rack after separation and extraction of a supporting and adjusting unit (10) corresponding to the plate. The body is equipped with a blocking unit below the plate. A vertical displacement unit is formed of an upper cylinder, a lower cylinder, a finger and a coaxial threaded rod, and is rest on a cap (22) supported on bottom of a parallelepiped water filled pool for lifting the base plate from the storage module. An independent claim is also included for a method for extracting a used nuclear fuel assembly storage module from a storage rack in a water filled pool of a nuclear power plant.
