PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein torque fluctuation becomes large when a load zone changes only by controlling the number of cylinders in which combustion is paused based on a load zone unit determined by engine speed and load, change of load is not reflected to the number of the cylinders in which combustion is paused even if load changes in the load zone if the number of cylinders in which combustion is paused is determined based on the load zone unit, and demanded engine output is not satisfied, in the engine pausing combustion based on cylinder unit. SOLUTION: In the internal combustion engine pausing combustion per cylinder, engine output is controlled with the number of times of combustion per one ignition cycle fixed in a light load operation zone, and engine output is controlled by changing the number of times of combustion in a unit time according to the demanded operation state in a middle and a heavy load operation zone.
