<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of minimizing the angle of incidence with the improvement of focusing efficiency, in an optical system including a projector. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A group of reflectors 30 in the projector 100 uses a passage for the light emitted from a lamp arc 23 and that travels to the front of a lamp bulb 22 and another passage for light that travels rearward of the lamp. More specifically, the light traveling in front of the lamp bulb 22 is reflected in the conventional fashion at a first parabolic reflector 31 and is made to travel, in parallel with an illumination-system light axis Z0. Meanwhile, the light traveling rearward of the lamp bulb 22 is sequentially reflected, at a second parabolic reflector 32, a third parabolic reflector 33, and a fourth parabolic reflector 34, and is made to travel in parallel with the illumination system light axis Z0.
