PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fine wire-shaped compound whose conversion into a fine wire and conversion into a long fiber are further accelerated, and to provide a method useful for producing the fine wire-shaped titanium compound. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a fine wire-shaped compound comprising a process where a mixture of a titanate and an alkali aqueous solution is subjected to pressurizing-heating treatment so as to grow the titanate into a fine wire shape, the operation is performed while controlling the number of the atoms of impurities having a cation radius smaller than that of an alkali metal element in the titanate synthesized by the pressurizing-heating treatment to≤1/50 of the number of the atoms of the titanium element comprised in the raw material.
