<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chain that prevents deterioration in breaking strength while reducing noise and vibration and reducing friction loss occurring during power transmission by reducing a frictional resistance by making a contact area small in contacting a chain guide member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A chain 100 is configured by alternately coupling a large number of inner link plates 120 and outer link plates 110 to each other. Each outer link plate 110 is formed into a gourd shape in which the center in the chain traveling direction is narrowed. The rear face height of the outer link plate is formed lower than that of the inner link plate 120.
