Provided is a formulation for administration to the teat canal of the mammary gland of a non-human animal, the formulation including: a physical barrier material comprising sufficient antibiotic such that the formulation is disintegrates over a period of time after administration to the teat canal. The barrier can be barium or bismuth based material and can contain aluminium stearate as gelling material and the antibiotic can be penicilline or cephalosporine.
