<p>The invention relates to a process for the rehabilitation of mercury-contaminated constructions, especially those which accommodate or attend mercury cathode electrolysis plants, such as industrial bays, storage spaces, supporting elements and other concrete and/or masonry structures. According to the invention, the process consists in reducing mercuric and mercurous compounds to metallic mercury and stabilizing the same as red mercury sulphuret by treating the contaminated surface at a temperature between -10 ... +40A C with a solution of tetrachlorostannic acid H2[SnCl4] with a concentration of 0.1 ...0.5 M, followed by the treatment with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal or alkaline earth thiosulphate, at a time interval of 5 ... 30 min, the interval between two or several successive treatments being of 1 ... 5 days.</p> |
