METHOD FOR PREDICTING RISK OF EXUDATIVE AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

Disclosed is a method for predicting the risk of exudative age-related macular degeneration, which comprises the steps of: detecting in vitro alleles of a single nucleotide polymorphism occurring at position-17 in at least one nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of the nucleotide sequences depicted in SEQ ID NO:1 to SEQ ID NO:124 or a sequence complementary to the nucleotide sequence in a nucleic acid molecule contained in a sample derived from a subject (a detection step); and determining as to whether or not at least one of the alleles detected in the preceding step is a risk allele (a determination step).  According to the method, it becomes possible to determine as to whether the potential risk of exudative age-related macular degeneration is present or absent and/or whether the degree of the risk of exudative age-related macular degeneration is high or low in a sample supplier by analyzing the alleles or genotypes of the single nucleotide polymorphism in the sample.
