<p>Disclosed is an elevator able to release the brake on an elevator car when an unforeseen brake is applied thereto as a result of the actuator failure of an elevator car braking device. The elevator comprises an elevator car brake device which engages with an elevator car guide rail to apply a brake to the elevator car, wherein the elevator car braking device comprises a pair of movable arms which at one end thereof face each other with the elevator car guide rail in between, a braking member fixed in such a way as to oppose one end side of the pair of movable arms, a coil spring for urging the pair of movable arms in the direction in which the braking member pressures and pinches the elevator car guide rail, and an actuator for generating an electromagnetic force for bringing the other ends of the movable arms closer together in resistance to the urging force of the coil spring. The elevator comprises a remote braking release mechanism which has a main body section disposed in the elevator car and is coupled to the elevator car braking device. The mechanism is designed so that an operation at the boarding zone enables a force to be applied to the mobile arms so that they turn in a direction which beings the other ends thereof closer together.</p> |
