PURPOSE: A coating apparatus capable of controlling a thickness of the steel plate, and a method thereof are provided to uniformly form the thickness of the steel plate by automatically adjust an interval between a pick-up roller, a transfer roller and a coating roller. CONSTITUTION: A coating apparatus capable of controlling a thickness of the steel plate comprises a first driving unit(10), a second driving unit(12), and a third driving unit(14). The first, second and third driving units are composed of a stepping motor, a reducer, a male screw rod in the roll screw shape, a female screw connector, and a load cell. The stepping motor prevents a step out phenomenon by applying a close roof control. The reducer reduces the rotational speed of the stepping motor. The load cell is connected to a bracket(38) to detect the contact pressure among each rollers.
