<p>A fiber optical device (1A) comprises an amplification optical fiber (10), a seed light source (15) for supplying pulsed seed light to the optical fiber (10), excitation light sources (21 to 25) for supplying excitation light, a bleaching light source (40) for supplying bleaching light for reducing a light transmission loss due to photodarkening, and a control device (50) for controlling the operation of each unit. The control device (50) divides the interval between a first output light pulse and a second output light pulse next to the first output light pulse into a first period including a period immediately after the first output light pulse and having an unsaturated inverted population and a second period including a period immediately before the second output light pulse. The control device (50) supplies the optical fiber (10) with the bleaching light in the first period and the excitation light in the second period. This provides a fiber optical device capable of preferably executing the characteristic recovery of an amplification optical fiber by photobleaching and also provides a method for driving the fiber optical device.</p> |
